Where do I go from here?
You are being tested or treated for breast cancer.  In this difficult time, you may be confused by the complexity of the health care system.  Our program can help.  The Navigator Program is coordinated by a Breast Health Nurse Specialist dedicated to advocating for you and ensuring that you receive the support and knowledge you need to successfully navigate the health care system.  The breast health care team works together to ensure a patient’s total needs are met in a timely manner; that her/his questions are answered and any confusion, fears or anxiety are not ignored.  Our goal is patient satisfaction through effective and sensitive delivery of care.

What can we do for you?
  • Guide you through the health care system
  • Provide education and emotional support
  • Advocate on your behalf to enhance your communication with health care staff and providers
  • Work with you to find the resources and support services you need
  • Help you find appropriate sources to pay for your health care needs
  • Help you arrange screening services (mammography and clinical breast exams)
  • Help you arrange for appropriate services so you can keep your health care appointments

These are four words that make all the difference when it comes to breast cancer.  Though we can’t prevent breast cancer, we can teach you how to detect it in its earliest stage.  And early detection is the key to cure.  That’s why Penobscot Bay Medical Center offers a wide array of breast care services for women of all ages, including:

  • One–to-one breast self-examination instruction
  • Clinical breast exam
  • Mammography and other breast imaging
  • All films are double read by two radiologists with the assistance of computer aided detection
  • Biopsies
  • Surgical Services
  • Adjuvant therapy, such as chemotherapy and hormonal therapy
  • Lymphedema Management
  • An educational library with books, videotapes and Internet access
  • Professionally facilitated support groups
  • Patient Navigator program

Our multidisciplinary team of health care professionals is highly experienced in breast health and is dedicated to providing women with proper education, diagnosis, treatment, and emotional support in a private, dignified setting.
