Better starts with you.

Pen Bay Healthcare's Better Together project focuses on:

• Caring for women and their families with additional education and outreach programs and a New Birth Center at the hospital.
• Centering care around each patient and their family with best quality and safest healthcare for overall highest patient satisfaction.
• Providing optimal, cost-effective and compassionate care to hospice patients and their families in a state-of-the-art Hospice House.

At each stage of life women and families face differing and complex health issues. The Women & Family Health Program informs, educates and supports women and their families about their health and healthcare choices. This project has two goals:

• To coordinate the care relating to women to better support them as they transition through the various stages of life and to bring together healthcare professionals from Pen Bay and the community to inform, educate and support women and families in the Midcoast.
• To support families who are at the stage where they want to become parents, we are upgrading the hospital's birthing unit to better reflect the outstanding level of expertise, care and compassion of our maternity physicians and nurses.

Patient-Centered Care is a new model of care for Pen Bay that emphasizes collaborative decision making, patient participation and family advocacy. The goal is to assure each person the optimal patient experience.

Hospice care is an option that more and more people are seeking.  The Midcoast is home to the oldest population in the state and we know that demand for hospice services continues to grow. With strong community support, $1.4 million has been given towards a hospice house that will be a testament to the hospice model of care and continue to serve the residents of Knox, Waldo and Lincoln counties for years to come.
