Program to Showcase Year's Worth of Nature Images

From a great blue heron's transfixing stare to a gauzy snow devil caught in a sunbeam, the breathtaking work of professional Maine nature photographer Tom Szelog comes into focus for Quarry Hill's next Adventures in Living Well program, scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Quarry Hill in Camden.

Designed for adults age 55 plus, the narrated photography presentation reveals what happened when Szelog set out to capture one remarkable image each week for one year in the wildlands surrounding his and wife Lee Ann Szelog's Whitefield home. The resulting collection was published in 2008 by Down East Books as "By a Maine River: A Year of Looking Closely."

Admission to the program is free and includes light refreshments. To register, call Quarry Hill at 230-6114. (Note: in the event of inclement weather, this event will be cancelled if Camden public schools close.)

"By a Maine River," will conclude the fall 2009 Adventures in Living Well series. Set to kick off the winter/spring 2010 lineup is "Poems on Loss, Hope, and Healing," to be presented by retired forensic psychiatrist Diane Schetky of Rockport on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.at Quarry Hill.
