ARichard Clark as John BarrymoreOne-Man Show Promises Intimate Look at Stage Legend John Barrymore

Professional actor Richard Clark brings the genius—and the tragedy—of early 20th century theater legend John Barrymore to life in "Barrymore!," a one-man dramatic tour de force to be presented twice at the Camden Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The first performance, offered as part of Quarry Hill Retirement Community's Adventures in Living Well series and cosponsored by the library, is reserved for adults age 55 and better and will run from 2 to 3:30 pm, with refreshments served. The second showing, open to all ages, will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 8 p.m. Admission to both performances is free.

In "Barrymore!," by William Luce, Clark deftly blends humor and pathos, portraying theater's boozy bad boy as he rehearses for Shakespeare's "Richard III." The result is an unforgettable portrait of a creative genius who lost his way.

Clark gained a local following in October 2008 for his portrayal of one of America's greatest writers in "Ernest Hemingway Alive!," another in a series of solo re-creations of historical figures that has brought the thespian wide acclaim. In a 30-year career spanning live theater and television, Clark has also appeared in "The Kennedys of Massachusetts," "Saturday Night Live," the daytime serials "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns," and numerous regional theater productions.

Those wishing to attend the 2 p.m. showing of "Barrymore!" are asked to register by calling Quarry Hill at 230-6114. There is no need to register for the 6:30 p.m. performance.

Following "Barrymore!" Quarry Hill's Adventures in Living Well fall series will continue with "By a Maine river: A Year of Looking Closely," on Wednesday, December 2, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Quarry Hill in Camden.
