Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice (KWL) is collaborating with Mid-Coast Mental Health Center (MCMHC) to launch a Volunteer Friends Program. The program will match selected MCMHC clients with volunteers from the community. These volunteers will provide supportive friendships to help combat the effects of loneliness, low self-esteem and isolation.

“Through this program, you can do simple things like going for a walk, seeing a movie or just making a phone call to someone in need of a friend,” said Joy Chamberlin, Volunteer Coordinator, KWL and coordinator for the Volunteer Friends Program.  “Friends can be the best medicine for a person who is striving for good mental health. If you can spare an hour a week, you might consider joining this revitalized program.”

A five to six hour training will take place at the KWL office in Rockland on Thursday, September 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. For additional information or questions, please call Joy Chamberlin at 594-9561 or email jchamberlin@penbayhealthcare.org.
