Erik Frederick Joins Pen Bay Healthcare as Chief Operating Officer
On behalf of the Pen Bay Healthcare Chief Operating Officer Search Committee, we announce that Erik Frederick, MHA has been chosen as Pen Bay Healthcare's new Chief Operating Officer.

Frederick comes from a healthcare and military background and has been with Vanguard Health Systems since 2005. He is currently regional director of Lean Operations for Vanguard in Chicago and is responsible for building the Lean-based performance improvement program for the Chicago market, which includes four hospitals, two ambulatory care medical campuses and a 21-clinic primary care network.
Frederick was previously chief operating officer at Weiss Memorial Hospital, where he worked with the hospital CEO to oversee day-to-day operations of the 226-bed, acute care community hospital. As COO, he had oversight of 400 employees including 12 directors/managers. In 2012, he was awarded Becker Hospital Review Top 100 COOs to Know. Prior to this, Frederick also served Vanguard Health Systems as director of Operations at Baptist Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. In that position, he installed his own leadership team within the departments of Security, Environmental Services, Facility Engineering and Sterile Processing.
Frederick wanted to return to an operations position in order to have a greater system-wide impact and have the ability to influence the care provided to the community. Frederick also has a background as a director of Safety and director of Building Management. He is a decorated former U.S. Army Intelligence Specialist and is also involved as a volunteer and mentor for many community service organizations including the American Heart Association and United Way.
Frederick is “very excited to join the team at Pen Bay and to contribute to the system’s history of service to the area.” Originally born in Maine, he looks forward to returning to the state, “My wife Sonya and I were amazed by the sense of community that exists in the Midcoast. We cannot wait to bring our children up and become part of this great region.”
