Long-Term Chronic Care
Phone: (207) 594-6810

The Long-Term Chronic Care Unit  at the Knox Center has room for up to 33 residents. It is a comfortable home for cognitively alert people, who, for whatever reason, are no longer able to safely care for themselves.

Everyone at the Knox Center becomes part of our extended family. Visit the Knox Center and you will discover what a truly home-like environment it really is -- complete with houseplants and pets, exercise, cooking and even arts and crafts classes.

There are parties to celebrate birthdays and the changing of the seasons. Residents are encouraged to pursue their individual interests and to share this enthusiasm with others. Residents also participate in the planning of activities and the governance of the Knox Center through representation on the Resident Council.

Family and visitors are always welcome -- many of our young visitors from nearby schools even choose to adopt a grandparent!

Services offered at the Knox Center include:

  • Nurses available 24 hours a day
  • Full spectrum of therapies including occupational, physical and speech
  • Alzheimer's care
  • Hospice and respite care
  • Social work services
  • Full program of individual and group activities
  • IV therapy
  • Laundry service and all meals

"It's a relief for me to know my mother is safe -- not just safe from falling -- safe because I know the people at the Knox Center care. If I went away for a month, I wouldn't feel like I was putting her out on a limb. Even family members from outside the area who have never seen the Knox Center were impressed when they visited my mother there. It's not institutional -- it's open. "
