Annual Community Health & Safety Fair
Features Free Flu Shots for Adults 50 and Older
.

The annual Pen Bay Healthcare Community Health and Safety Fair will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 at Rockland District High School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This year's featured events include:

· Free flu shots for children and adults

· Safety tips and free gun locks from local law enforcement officials

· Healthy lifestyle information on yoga, massage and homeopathic methods

· Car seat safety checks

· Activities for children and young families

· Healthy cooking demonstrations

· Cholesterol, blood pressure and hearing screenings

Adults who are 50 years of age or older or who have long-term health problems qualify for a free flu shot. Also, the health fair will provide free shots to children. Receiving a flu shot in November ensures immunity for the duration of the season as its effects can last through March.

Pen Bay Healthcare provides the community updated flu shot information on the web at pbmc.org/flu. Health Fair attendees are urged to check that web page for the most up to date information about flu shot availability.

The 2008 Community Health & Safety Fair featured more than 60 exhibitors viewed by more than 800 area residents. Fair Organizer Maggi Blue, community relations coordinator for Pen Bay Healthcare, is confident this year's fair should top those numbers.

"The wide variety of free services and educational activities being offered at this year's fair make it a valuable contribution to the health of the Midcoast community," said Blue. "We're offering something for everyone in the family -- all the generations."

Staff from all members of the Pen Bay Healthcare family of services will be joined by physicians and other community wellness groups and organizations to share their knowledge and expertise with attendees on a wide range of health and wellness topics. This year's event promises to be even more successful.
