Annual Knox Center Turkey Feast Brings Smiles, Good Food

Residents, family members and staff joined together on Thursday, November 15 to celebrate the Knox Center's annual pre-Thanksgiving "Turkey Feast." Designed to allow families to spend time with their nursing-home-bound loved ones around the holidays, Turkey Feast has grown to be one of the best evenings of the year at Pen Bay Healthcare's Knox Center for Long Term Care. For many staff, it's as meaningful their own Thanksgiving get-togethers.

This year, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Thunder Bay commanding officer and several crew members joined friends and families at the Knox Center. Thunder Bay sponsors the Knox Center and crew members visit with patients and perform service projects as their schedule allows.

"We enjoy the opportunity to share a meal with our residents and their loved ones," says Carl Chadwick, Knox administrator. "It's a unique chance to experience a "family" gathering that's often 250 to 300 people strong. It is truly special to see the positive impact that Turkey Feast has on our local community, including patients, staff and their families."
